Welcome back, students, parents, and staff!
As we begin another school year, I’d like to remind everyone to be especially mindful of school buses and the increased pedestrian traffic that will be prevalent on our roadways.
Buckle Up: No matter how short the trip, all occupants must wear seatbelts.
Slow Down and Stay Alert: Especially when driving near schools.
Watch for Pedestrians: Many students walk to and from school. Pay close attention to children crossing the street, especially in crosswalks and near bus stops.
Expect Heavier Traffic: Traffic is likely to be heavier than usual, particularly during the first few weeks of school.
Be Patient at Drop-Off Areas: Please remain with your vehicle. The north parking lot of Ennis Elementary is not a designated drop-off or pick-up area. Use the approved west elementary lot and drop-off lane to ensure everyone’s safety.
Respect the Curbs: When dropping off or picking up your student(s), remember that curbs are not speed bumps and should not be driven over. Follow the directions of staff directing traffic in the parking lots. If you drive without regard for everyone’s safety, you will receive an invitation to meet the Judge.
Expect Frequent Stops Along Bus Routes: Allow extra time and avoid crowding or illegally passing buses. A tip: Ennis School buses are equipped with cameras, and law enforcement will visit those who illegally pass a school bus.
Never Pass a Vehicle Stopped at a Crosswalk: This is not only unsafe but also illegal.
Obey Speed Limits: The maximum speed limit on all residential streets is 25 mph, except for the 15 mph limit around Ennis Public Schools. The 15 mph speed limit is in effect 24/7.
Passing on the Right is Illegal: Passing on the right where there is no designated lane of travel is both illegal and unsafe.
Follow the Two-Second Rule: Maintain at least a two-second following distance while driving.
Avoid Distractions: Do not drive while distracted by cell phones, passengers, or anything else that takes your focus off the road.
Come to a Complete Stop at All Stop Signs: This includes the stop signs at the elementary and high school.
The Ennis Police Department will once again be partnering with Ennis Schools this year to mentor, educate, and protect the students and staff.
Please slow down and drive safely.
